White-rumped Shama
(වන පොල්කිච්චා)
Copsychus malabaricus

Seen inside the bush in the Jungle Beach hotel in Kuchchaveli, a few of them have made the hotel jungle space their home. They put up a beautiful dance and songs and were quite OK with me getting closer. In fact, they were as curious about me as I was about them.

Copsychus saularis

Male seen at MillenniumIT car park. (Image 1) Female near my home in Kottawa. (Image 2) They are quite common around households and have superbly adapted to urban landscapes.

An extreme close-up of a female in image 3 and 4.

Image 5 to 7 I believe are an adult and a juvenile. The adult was chasing the juvenile and making a big commotion as seen by the adults pose.

Saxicola caprata

These images are all taken at Horton Planes. 1st to 3rd image is of a female. 4th is of a male. Image 6 I believe is of a juvenile female. She was difficult to identify at first but she was with another mature female which leads me to believe she is a juvenile.

Images 7 to 9 are from a different trip.

Black-backed Robin / Black Robin
(ඉන්දු කලුකිච්චා)
Copsychus fulicatus

The first one was seen at the Kandalama hotel. Very pretty and I have managed to capture both Male and a Female.

Image 3 is of a female at the MillenniumIT car park. Again there was a male also but I couldn't get a picture of him. Image 4 and 5 are of a mail at a very close range where he was plowing through dirt looking for termites and didn't mind me getting very close. Look at the beauty of that velvety coat. Can't see the whites on his wing as they are often hidden.
